Okay, so I’ve been into watches for a while now, and the Rolex Submariner has always been kind of a grail for me. But let’s be real, the price tag is insane. So, I started looking into getting a decent homage, specifically the two-tone black Submariner. I did some searching about it, but the information is a bit all over the place.
First, I started looking at different brands that make similar-looking watches. I mean, there are tons of them out there. Casio with their Duro model is okay, but it’s not quite the same. Then there’s Seiko, and Deep Blue – they’ve got some decent options, but still not exactly what I was looking for.
Here’s what I did:
- I spent hours on forums and watch blogs, trying to get a feel for what people thought were the best options. There was so much arguing about black vs. blue, which one holds its value better, and so on. It was a mess!
- I checked out a few online stores that specialize in homages. The descriptions were all pretty much the same, and it was hard to tell which ones were actually any good.
Trying it out
I decided to order a couple of different models from different brands, just to see them in person. One was a bit cheaper, and the other was more expensive, supposed to be a higher quality. When they arrived, I was pretty disappointed with the cheaper one. The bracelet felt super light and cheap, and the bezel action was terrible.
The more expensive one, though, was a different story. It felt solid, the bracelet was way better, and the bezel had that satisfying click. The black dial and bezel looked really good, and it even had that little magnifying bubble over the date, just like the real thing. The bubble was even black, which I found out is what the authentic ones are like!
Finally, Success!
After wearing it for a few days, I was really happy with it. It kept time well, and it looked great on my wrist. I mean, it’s not a real Rolex, but for the price, it’s pretty darn close. I’ve heard people say the clasp on the real Submariner can be a scratch magnet, so maybe that’s one less thing to worry about!
So, yeah, that’s my little journey into the world of high-imitation Rolex Submariners. It took some time and effort, but I finally found one that I’m really happy with. If you’re thinking about getting one, just do your research and don’t be afraid to try a few out.
