Alright, folks, gather ’round, let me tell ya about this little project I got myself into. I’ve always been a bit of a watch guy, you know? And those fancy Patek Philippe ones? Man, they’re somethin’ else. But the price tag? Oof, not for the faint of heart, that’s for sure. Well, I did some diggin’. Turns out, there’s a whole world of these “remake” watches out there. Basically, they’re like, uh, inspired by the real deal, but way, way cheaper. First thing I did was look up those 5088/100P-001 things. Seemed pretty popular, lots of folks talkin’ about ’em. Found some online stores sellin’ them, but they were all over the place. Prices, quality, you name it. It was a mess. So, I decided to do it myself. Make my own, you know?
Finding the Parts
Now, I ain’t no watchmaker, but I’m pretty handy. Figured I could find the parts and put ’em together. Obviously, I couldn’t get my hands on a real Patek Philippe movement, those things are like gold dust. So, I went huntin’ for a decent automatic movement from a supplier I’d heard good things about. Wasn’t cheap, but hey, you get what you pay for, right?
- The Case: This was a tough one. I wanted it to look and feel like the real deal. Ended up findin’ a pretty good one online, stainless steel, just like the original.
- The Dial: This is where things got tricky. The 5088/100P-001 has this fancy engraved dial, and I wanted to get as close as possible. After a lot of searchin’, I found a guy who makes custom dials. Sent him some pictures, and he did a pretty bang-up job, I gotta say.
- The Hands: These were easier to find. Just had to make sure they were the right style and size for the movement and the dial.
- The Strap: Went for a simple black leather strap. Nothin’ too fancy, just wanted it to be comfortable and look good.
Putting It All Together
Once I had all the parts, it was time to get down to business. I cleared off my workbench, got my tools ready, and started puttin’ this thing together. It was slow goin’, let me tell ya. Lots of fiddly little parts, and I had to be super careful not to mess anything up.
But after a few evenings of work, it was done. My very own “Remake Patek Philippe PP Calatrava 5088/100P-001 Original order.” And you know what? It actually looked pretty darn good. I mean, it’s not the real thing, but for a fraction of the price, I was pretty happy with it.
Now, I’m not sayin’ everyone should go out and make their own watch. It’s a lot of work, and you gotta have some patience.
