Okay, here’s my sharing about remaking the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R.
So, I’ve been eyeing the Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R for a while now. You know, the one with the rose gold case and that slick black sunburst dial? Man, that watch is a beauty! It’s got this classic vibe from the 70s that I really dig. But the price tag? $38,060? Forget about it. My wallet started crying just thinking about it.
But I wasn’t ready to give up. I started digging around, hoping to find a more, shall we say, “wallet-friendly” version. I mean, I just wanted something that looked like the real deal, you know? I did see some used originals going for around $8-9k, but even that was a bit much for me at this moment.
Then it hit me: What about a remake? It is not the real one, but will get the similar appearance. I started searching for any info on a remake version of this watch. And you know what? I actually found some! I started reaching out to all sorts of sellers, asking about the quality, the materials, the movement, the whole nine yards. I wanted to make sure it wasn’t some cheap knockoff that would fall apart in a week.
After a bunch of back-and-forth, I finally pulled the trigger and ordered one. I was nervous, I won’t lie. It felt like a gamble. Would it look good? Would it feel solid?
When it finally arrived, I ripped open the package like a kid on Christmas morning. And you know what? I was pretty darn impressed. It had that same large size, that same elegant elliptical shape. The rose gold-colored case looked pretty good, and the black dial, while not exactly the same as the original, still had that cool sunburst effect.
- Looks: Pretty close to the original. The case, dial, and hands are all very similar.
- Feel: It doesn’t feel cheap. The case has some weight to it, and the strap feels pretty comfortable.
- Movement: Obviously, it’s not a real Patek movement, but it keeps time just fine.
I’ve been wearing it for a few weeks now, and I gotta say, I’m happy with it. It’s not the real Patek Philippe Golden Ellipse 5738R, but it gets the job done. It gets the look. I’ve even gotten a few compliments on it. People think it’s the real deal!
If you’re like me, and you love the look of the 5738R but can’t stomach the price, a remake might be worth considering. Just do your research, ask a lot of questions, and don’t expect a perfect replica. But for a fraction of the price, you can get a watch that captures the spirit of the original. And that’s good enough for me, and I hope you will like it too.
