Hey everyone, it’s your buddy back again! So, the other day I was just messing around, thinking about what to do next, and I thought, why not try to remake a Patek Philippe watch? I mean, those things are crazy expensive. It’s like buying a whole herd of cows, maybe more. You need a lot of money, a whole lot. Specifically, I went for the Gondolo 7042/100G-010. Yeah, that super fancy one you see on the official flagship store.

First off, I started digging around for info. I mean, I couldn’t just jump in blind, right? I spent days, I tell ya, days, just browsing through forums, watching videos, and reading anything I could get my hands on about this watch and watchmaking in general. Finding detailed specs on the Gondolo was a real pain, let me tell you. Harder than finding a needle in a haystack!

Then came the fun part – or so I thought – getting the materials. I needed all sorts of tiny parts, and let me tell you, they don’t sell this stuff at your local convenience store. I had to order from all over the place. It felt like I was waiting forever for all those tiny screws, gears, and that shiny white gold-like material to arrive.

  • Sourcing white gold-like material
  • Ordering tiny screws, like, really tiny
  • Finding the right kind of glass for the watch face
  • Don’t forget those shiny decorative bits

Once I had everything, or at least I thought I did, I started putting it together. Now, I’ve always been pretty handy, but this was a whole other level. I had to buy some new tools, like really tiny screwdrivers and some magnifying glasses because, boy, are those parts small! I felt like a real craftsman at first, it was pretty fun.

The assembly process was, well, let’s just say it was a learning experience. I made a lot of mistakes, had to redo some parts multiple times, it was a mess, to be honest. There were moments I just wanted to chuck the whole thing out the window. But I kept at it, fueled by stubbornness and way too much coffee. It really tests your patience, putting one of these things together.

After what felt like a lifetime, I finally finished it! It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. There are some, uh, “unique” features to my version of the Gondolo. But you know what? It kinda looks like the real deal, at least from a distance. And the best part? It actually tells time!

So, that’s my little adventure in trying to remake a super fancy Patek Philippe watch. Was it worth it? Probably not. Would I do it again? Definitely not. But hey, at least I’ve got a cool story to tell, and a one-of-a-kind watch to show for it!
