Okay, so, I’ve been eyeing this RemakePRADA Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Mini-Bag for a while now, you know, the Special Edition one. Finally decided to take the plunge and remake it myself. It’s a bit of a project, but I figured, why not?

First thing I did was look up what this “Saffiano” leather actually is. Turns out, it’s real leather, but it’s been treated and stamped with this pattern. It’s not like that full-grain stuff that gets all soft and worn-in over time. This Saffiano is supposed to be tougher, more, you know, resistant to scratches and stuff. I guess they use either chrome-tanning or vegetable-tanning for full-grain. And the thickness? Well, that depends on what they’re using the leather for, and what kind of animal it came from.

Then I started looking at pictures of the actual bag. It’s pretty simple, really. Just a classic kind of shape. Got two handles, so you can carry it in your hand or on your arm. And of course, it’s got that little Prada triangle logo thing on it. That’s a must-have. I learned that Prada, this fancy Italian brand started way back in 1913, makes all sorts of bags – big ones, small ones, shoulder bags, you name it. But this Galleria style, it’s one of their signature things, I guess.

So, I got myself some leather. Not the real Saffiano, obviously, that’s way out of my budget. But something that looked kind of similar, with that textured pattern. And it feels pretty sturdy, which is good. I measured out the pieces, based on the pictures I found. This mini-bag, it’s really tiny. I mean, what can you actually fit in there? Your phone, maybe? A lipstick? Anyway, I cut out all the pieces, making sure to be extra careful.

Next, I had to figure out how to put the whole thing together. I found a few tutorials online for making similar bags, which was helpful. Lots of stitching, let me tell you. I used my mom’s old sewing machine, she taught me the basics a long time ago. It wasn’t perfect, but it got the job done. I even managed to add that little triangle logo, though it’s definitely not the real Prada one!

Putting in the lining was probably the trickiest part. It’s this smooth, satiny fabric. Makes the inside feel all fancy. Took a few tries to get it right, but I eventually got it in there, nice and snug. And I found a zipper that matched the color of the leather pretty well, and I used that old sewing machine to stitch it. Then I managed to attach some hardware as the handles.

Honestly, it took me a whole weekend to finish it. But you know what? It actually turned out pretty good! It’s not exactly like the real RemakePRADA Prada Galleria Saffiano Mini-Bag, but it’s close enough. And it feels good to have made something with my own two hands. Plus, I saved a ton of money. Those designer bags are pricey, you know?

It might not be an investment piece like the real Prada, but it’s my own little creation. And that’s pretty cool, right?
