RemakePRADA Medium Prada Galleria Bag: Classic Style Saffiano Leather on a Budget.

So, I’ve been wanting to remake a Prada Galleria Saffiano leather bag for a while now. I mean, it’s such a classic style, right? The timeless elegance of it just speaks to me. I finally decided to take the plunge and document the whole process.

First, I gathered all my materials. This was probably the hardest part, honestly. Finding the right kind of leather was crucial. I wanted that signature Saffiano texture, so I spent a good amount of time sourcing it. I finally found a supplier that had exactly what I was looking for. It wasn’t cheap, but hey, quality over quantity, am I right?

Next, I started working on the pattern. I used an old bag of similar size as a reference and drew up my own pattern pieces. I made sure to double and triple-check all the measurements. You can’t be too careful with this kind of thing. A mistake here could ruin the entire bag.

Cutting and Prepping

  • After the pattern was finalized, I carefully cut out all the leather pieces. This part took forever because I was so paranoid about messing up.
  • Then, I skived the edges of the leather to make them thinner and easier to work with. This was a new technique for me, and it took some practice to get it right. But once I got the hang of it, it made a huge difference in the overall look and feel of the bag.
  • Next, I prepared all the hardware. The zippers, buckles, and D-rings all needed to be the right size and finish. Luckily, I found some that matched the original Prada bag pretty closely.

Assembly Time

Once all the pieces were cut and prepped, it was time to start assembling the bag. This is where things got real.

  • I stitched the main body panels together, making sure to use a strong thread that could withstand wear and tear.
  • Then I carefully installed the zipper.
  • After that, I attached the handles and the shoulder strap. This was a bit tricky because I had to make sure they were perfectly aligned.
  • Finally, I added all the finishing touches, like the lining and the metal feet.

The whole process took me several weeks, working on it during my free time. There were definitely moments of frustration, like when I accidentally sewed a piece on backward and had to rip it out and start over. But in the end, it was all worth it.

Seeing the finished bag come together was such a satisfying feeling. I couldn’t believe I actually made it myself! It’s not a perfect replica, of course, but it captures the essence of the original Prada Galleria bag. And the fact that I made it with my own two hands makes it even more special.

I’m so proud of how this project turned out, and I’m already thinking about what I want to make next. Maybe a matching wallet? Or perhaps I’ll try my hand at a completely different style of bag. The possibilities are endless!
