Okay, so I’ve been wanting to get this bag for a while now – the Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag. It’s a classic, you know? But the price tag, oof, it made me think twice, maybe even thrice. After hemming and hawing, I finally decided, “You know what? Let’s try to make one myself!”
First things first, I had to gather my materials. I went online, did some digging to find some decent Saffiano leather, similar to what Prada uses. It took a bit of searching, but I eventually found a supplier that seemed legit. Then, I started looking for the hardware – the metal logo, the zippers, all that shiny stuff. That was another adventure in itself! I found some good-looking pieces from different online stores.
Then came the actual making of the bag. Now, I’m no professional, but I’ve dabbled in some DIY projects before. I started by creating a pattern. I found some helpful bag patterns online, and used them as a base. I measured the leather – 120 cm long, you know, to make it just right, and I cut it out carefully. It took ages to get it to the right size and shape. The pattern was a challenge. It’s made up of, like, 83 different pieces. 83! Can you believe it?
- Cutting the leather: This was nerve-wracking! One wrong cut, and the whole thing could be ruined. I marked everything out, took a deep breath, and started cutting.
- Sewing: I dusted off my old sewing machine. It took some practice to get the stitches nice and even. Sewing the leather was tough, but I managed.
- Putting it all together: This was like assembling a complicated puzzle. I had to attach the lining, the pockets, and those external zipper pockets were a pain, then the handles. Everything had to be just right.
- Adding the hardware: I carefully attached the metal feet, the Prada logo – which, by the way, is a leather triangle with metal lettering, and the zipper pulls.
It took me several days, maybe even weeks, working on it bit by bit, to assemble all 83 pieces. I lost count of how many times I messed up and had to redo things. But, you know what? I kept at it. There were moments where I thought about giving up, but I pushed through.
The final result?
Well, it’s not perfect, not like the real deal you’d get from a Prada store. But it’s mine. I made it with my own two hands. It’s a decent size, and the Saffiano leather feels pretty good, and it has that classic Prada look. I even added a removable leather key ring, just like the original! It’s got a removable and adjustable leather shoulder strap too, it’s got a good length to it, somewhere between 110 cm and 120 cm, so I can wear it cross-body or on my shoulder. It’s got two external zipper pockets too, which is super handy for storing small stuff.
I’m actually pretty proud of how it turned out. It’s a reminder that you can do anything you set your mind to, even if it’s remaking a fancy designer bag! I can now use my own Remake PRADA Medium Prada Galleria Saffiano Leather Bag.
