Okay, so, I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a YSL bag for a while now. They’re just so classic, you know? And the Saint Laurent YSL Le Carre Satchel, in particular, caught my eye. It’s got that sleek, timeless look that I love. But, let me tell you, these bags are not cheap. They use fancy materials like real leather and silk, and they put a lot of work into making them, so it makes sense. Still, I decided to try and make one myself!
First, I started to look up everything I could about the bag. I found out it’s called the “BRICK LE CARR SATCHEL IN BOX SAINT LAURENT” when you buy it. I watched some videos of people who own the real deal, talking about how it’s a bag that lasts a lifetime if you got the money. But I was determined to make it, not buy it.
I got myself some good quality leather. It wasn’t easy to find something that looked and felt like the real YSL leather, but I found a decent one. I used some pictures online as a guide and started cutting the leather into the shapes I needed. I made sure to get the measurements right, because I wanted it to be as close to the original as possible. The brand YSL is known for its meticulous craftsmanship, so I had to be super careful.
- Cut the leather into main pieces for the front, back, and sides.
- Skived down the edges of the leather so they wouldn’t be too bulky when I sewed them together.
- Glued the lining to the inside of the leather pieces. This was tricky, but it made the bag look more finished.
- Sewed the main pieces together. I used a heavy-duty needle and thread because the leather was thick.
- Made the strap by attaching two long pieces of leather together and adding some hardware.
- Attached the strap to the bag using some rivets.
Final Touches
Then came the fun part – adding the hardware. I found some gold-toned pieces that looked similar to the ones on the YSL bag. I carefully attached the buckle and the other metal pieces, making sure they were secure. The hardware really made the bag look more authentic. The brand’s glamorous appeal comes from details like this, so I took my time with it.
It took a lot of time and effort, but I finally finished my DIY YSL Le Carre Satchel. It’s not perfect, but I’m pretty proud of how it turned out. It definitely has that same chic vibe as the original. It’s not the same as owning a real one, but it’s a good alternative for someone who can’t afford the high price tag. Plus, I learned a lot about bag making in the process. I might even try making other styles in the future. Who knows, maybe I’ll even start selling them!
