Alright, folks, gather ’round. Today, I’m gonna share my little adventure of remaking the Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001. Yeah, that fancy-sounding name, it’s a real watch, a classy one at that. I saw this watch, this Calatrava 6119R-001, a while back in 2021. They say it’s a remake. It’s based on some old watch called Reference 96. A beauty, she is. Rose gold case, silver dial, the whole shebang.
So, first things first, I started digging around for info. Found out this beauty’s got a 39mm diameter and it’s 8.08mm thick. Pretty slim, huh? Water-resistant up to 30 meters, not that I’d take it for a swim, mind you. And it’s got a sapphire crystal case back, so you can see all the little parts ticking away inside. Speaking of parts, there are 164 of them, all working together.
Getting Down to Business
Now, getting my hands on the original, well, that wasn’t going to happen, not very easy, not very cheap. So, I decided to make my own. I started by sketching out the design, getting all the details down. Then I moved on to sourcing the materials. This was a bit tricky, had to find the right kind of rose gold, the right kind of silver, and all those tiny little parts that make up the movement.
- First, I drew. Everything I could see.
- Then, I hunted down parts. Like a detective, I was.
- After that, the real fun began. Assembly.
Putting it all together, that was the real test. Tiny screws, delicate hands, everything had to be just right. I spent hours, days even, hunched over my workbench, my eyes glued to the magnifying glass. This 6119R, it’s a simple-looking thing, but let me tell you, there’s a lot going on under the hood. Finally I got the parts I needed.
And you know what? It worked. It actually worked. My very own Patek Philippe Calatrava 6119R-001, ticking away on my wrist. It ain’t perfect, mind you. There are a few rough edges, a few things I’d do differently next time. But it’s mine. And I made it. It has a very classic entirely polished round case, The Ref. 6119R in 18k rose gold represents the newest Calatrava model. And you know what, at the end of the day, that’s all that matters.
