Alright, folks, gather ’round, gather ’round! Today, I’m gonna tell you about this little project I’ve been working on. It’s a doozy, let me tell you. I decided to try and remake a fancy Patek Philippe watch, the Gondolo 4962/200R-001. Yeah, that one. The one that costs more than my car.
So, first, I started digging around. I mean, I’m not made of money, so a real one was out of the question. But I figured, how hard could it be to make something that looks like it, right? Turns out, harder than I thought. I spent days just looking at pictures online, reading descriptions, anything I could find. These things are detailed, man. Real detailed. And finding prices online, wow! People are serious about their watches.
I found a few websites that had information about this particular model, the 4962/200R-001. They talked about how it’s a “jewelry watch” with “timeless elegance.” Sounds fancy, huh? I just wanted to see if I could make something that looked like it. I mean, this watch got original papers and an original box!
Then, I started looking into what I could use to make my own version. I needed something that looked like gold, but obviously wasn’t. And I needed a watch face that looked similar, and the right kind of band. It was a lot to think about. I found some measurements, too. This Gondolo thing is 28.6 x 40.85 mm, and 7.36 mm thick. It’s water-resistant to 30 meters, not that I’d take mine near water.
Getting My Hands Dirty
I headed to some online stores, the kind that sell all sorts of bits and bobs. I managed to find some gold-colored material that I thought might work. It wasn’t perfect, but it had a nice shine to it. And, most importantly, it was cheap. I picked up a cheap watch with a rectangular face. The shape was kind of right. It’s not just about the looks though, it’s about the dimensions!
Then came the hard part. I started trying to put it all together. Let me tell you, it was a lot of trial and error. I broke a couple of watch faces, messed up the gold stuff a few times, and nearly glued my fingers together more times than I’d like to admit. It was a mess, folks, a real mess.

But, you know what? I didn’t give up. I kept at it, and eventually, I managed to put together something that actually resembled the Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001. It wasn’t perfect, not by a long shot. But it had the right shape, the right kind of shine, and it actually told the time! I mean the shape, the dimensions, they were not perfect but you know, not bad!
- First, I got the gold-looking stuff to fit around the watch face. That was a pain.
- Then, I managed to get a band that looked kind of similar to the real one.
- Finally, I polished the whole thing up, and voila! My very own, not-so-expensive version of a fancy watch.
So, there you have it. My adventure in trying to remake a Patek Philippe Gondolo. Was it worth it? Probably not. Would I do it again? Definitely not. But hey, it was a fun little project, and I learned a thing or two about watches. And that, my friends, is what it’s all about. It’s a remake they say, and I’d say, mission accomplished. Well, almost. Ha!
