Man, I’ve always been into watches, especially those fancy ones. So the other day, I thought, why not try to remake one of those super expensive ones? I picked the Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001. Sounds cool, right? Let me tell you how it went.
First thing I did was look up this watch online. I found some info on a site called Chrono24. They had like 15 of these watches, and they were all pretty pricey. But hey, that didn’t stop me. I was determined to remake it.
I also found out that this watch is part of the Gondolo Serata collection. They called it a “jewelry watch” with “unique style and timeless elegance”. I thought, “Alright, challenge accepted!” I wanted to see if I could capture that elegance in my remake.
Then I looked for where to buy one and came across this listing from the Czech Republic. It was a brand new 2023 model, with the original box and papers. I took note of all these details. You know, just in case I needed to make mine look as legit as possible.
Getting into the Details
I read more about the watch’s design. It’s got this Art Deco vibe, which I think is super classy. The case is 18k rose gold, and it’s curved, which was going to be tricky to replicate. Plus, it has this bezel set with some fancy stuff that I knew I wouldn’t be able to match exactly, but I’d try my best.
Here are some more specifics I found:
- Dimensions are 28.6 x 40.85 mm.
- It’s 7.36 mm thick.
- It’s water-resistant up to 30 meters.
Now, I’m not a pro at this. I knew I wasn’t going to make an exact copy. My main goal was to get the overall look and feel right. I started by sketching out the design, focusing on those dimensions and the curved shape of the case. I figured the rose gold color would be the easiest part to match.
I spent a few days just planning and sketching. I’m not going to lie, it was harder than I thought it would be. But I kept at it, trying different materials and techniques. I even tried using some clay to mold the case, which was a total mess, but fun!
After a lot of trial and error, I finally managed to create something that resembled the Gondolo 4962/200R-001. It wasn’t perfect, but I was pretty proud of it. I used some metallic paint to get that rose gold look and shaped the case as best as I could. The bezel was the hardest part, but I think I did an okay job.
In the end, my remake was more of an “inspired by” version of the Patek Philippe Gondolo 4962/200R-001. It was a great learning experience, though. I got to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into making these luxury watches. Would I do it again? Maybe. It was definitely a fun project, and it gave me a new respect for watchmakers.
